Hidden text in a PDF is more common than it looks

Covering text with a white box is not redaction. X-Ray shows what is still sitting in the file.

PDFs rarely delete. They cover. A white rectangle over a salary, white text on a white page, or a “final” save that was actually an incremental update can all leave the old wording in the bytes.

Copy-paste and search will still find it. So will anyone who knows to look. A black bar you drew in Preview is not the same as redaction.

Check the file without sending it

PDF X-Ray scans in the browser for leftover versions, invisible and white text, text sitting under a painted box, JavaScript, attachments, and author metadata. You get a finding list and a downloadable report. The PDF is not uploaded.

X-Ray does not clean the file. If you need a visual-only copy, Compress at High flattens pages to images — that is still not certified redaction, but it removes selectable hidden text.

UnlimitedPDF processes files in your browser. Nothing in these guides requires an upload.
