Not another upload-and-hope converter

UnlimitedPDF is a small workshop for jobs you already do: shrink a PDF so email will take it, join three scans into one packet, pull two pages out of a report, turn a photo of a receipt into a PDF, or check whether a “redacted” file still has the old text in the bytes.

Those jobs are usually done on websites that take the file first. That is simple to build and a poor fit for anything confidential. Here, the browser is the computer. pdf-lib, PDF.js, and canvas run in this tab. There is no account wall, no watermark, and no file-size quota on our side — only whatever memory your device has.

PDF tools FAQ

Is it safe to compress or convert a PDF online?
On UnlimitedPDF.app the file never leaves your device. Compress PDF, merge PDF, split PDF, and PDF to Word all run in your browser. We cannot see your documents because they are never uploaded to a server.
Is there a free PDF compressor with no file size limit?
UnlimitedPDF does not cap file size or daily use. There is no sign-up and no watermark. The only ceiling is your browser’s memory, so very large PDFs are more reliable on a desktop than on a phone.
Do I need an account to merge PDF files or convert PDF to Word?
No. Every tool works without an account: compress PDF, merge PDF files, split PDF, JPG to PDF, PDF to JPG, resize image, and PDF X-Ray. There is no sign-in and no paid tier.
How is UnlimitedPDF different from iLovePDF or Smallpdf?
iLovePDF and Smallpdf process files on their servers and offer more tools, including OCR in many languages and e-signing, with free plans that limit usage. UnlimitedPDF does fewer things, all in your browser: no upload, no quota, no watermark. The trade-off is your device’s memory rather than a subscription.
Can I compress a PDF without uploading it?
Yes. Drop the PDF on Compress PDF, pick Low, Recommended, or High, and download. Re-encoding happens in this tab. The same goes for merge, split, and convert: nothing is sent to a server, because there is no file-upload endpoint.
Does splitting a PDF reduce its quality?
No. Split copies pages; it does not resample images or flatten text. A 300 ppi scan stays 300 ppi. A one-page extract can still be large if the page uses an image shared across the document, such as a letterhead. That is resource sharing, not quality loss. Compress the extract if you need it smaller.
Why did my compressed PDF not get smaller?
The file was probably already optimized: a Word or Google Docs export with subset fonts and few images, so there is little to remove. When the output is not smaller, the result says “Already optimized” and you keep the original. High will not help a text document; it turns text into pictures.
Does merging PDFs preserve bookmarks and links?
Page content, rotation, and page sizes are copied exactly. Bookmarks, the document title and author, and XMP metadata are not carried over, and internal links can lose their target. Rebuild the outline in the merged file if you need a table of contents.
What does PDF X-Ray actually check for?
Leftover incremental saves (extra %%EOF markers, where earlier wording can survive), invisible or white text, text under a painted “redaction” box, JavaScript and open actions, embedded files, form values, optional content layers, identity metadata, and EXIF or GPS data inside embedded JPEGs. It is a scanner, not a cleaner.
Can I convert a scanned (image-based) PDF to Word?
Yes, with caveats. If almost no selectable text is found, the page is a picture. You can download a .docx that holds those page images, or run English OCR in this browser. OCR will not perfectly read stamps, handwriting, or a phone photo of a contract. The file still never leaves the device.
Is there a difference between Letter and A4 output?
Yes. US Letter is 8.5×11 inches (612×792 pt). A4 is 210×297 mm (595.28×841.89 pt). Letter is wider and shorter; A4 is narrower and taller. A PDF that looks fine on screen can clip a footer or leave a strip of white when printed on the other paper at actual size. JPG to PDF lets you pick Fit, A4, or Letter before you download.
